Jungheinrich employees donate €31,000

Every penny counts! With this in mind, every year Jungheinrich employees donate however much of their monthly salary comes after the decimal point to the German medical aid organisation action medeor e.V. This year’s donation – which amounted to around €31,000 – helps the organisation to aid Tanzania and the Congo in the struggle against the coronavirus pandemic.  

Since 2012, employees have voluntarily taken part in this Donate your Pennies campaign at Jungheinrich. Jungheinrich employees from Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal and Italy participate. In total, over €200,000 has been donated this way to action medeor. The money goes to specific projects that need extra support at the time. Jungheinrich has supported this organisation, also referred to as the “world’s emergency pharmacy”, for years on a wide range of aid projects with monetary and in-kind donations, as well as technical expertise. In this way, it has been possible to equip one pharmaceutical warehouse each in Tanzania and Malawi with vital materials and to expand storage facilities at the headquarters in Tönisvorst, Germany. 

With the donation from this year’s campaign, we supported the cooperation of action medeor with the partner Christian Social Service Commission (CSSC) in Tanzania, which is connected to 57 hospitals. Each one receives oxygen concentrators for the treatment of moderately sick Covid-19 patients who need additional oxygen. Protective equipment, such as disinfectant, masks, safety goggles and scrubs are also supplied. action medeor also works with the organisation Association des Femmes pour la Promotion et le Développement Endogène asbl (AFPDE) on improving the health, sanitation and drinking water supply for Burundian refugees and the local population in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To this end, extensive activities have been established, including the provision of medications, consumables and medical supplies for health stations in the project area. The project was also expanded to include measures for the protection against the coronavirus.
